Welcome to West Kilbride Medical Practice
With patients' needs at the heart of everything we do, our website has been designed to make it easy for you to gain instant access to the information you need. As well as specific practice details such as opening hours and how to register, you’ll find a wealth of useful pages covering a wide range of health issues along with links to other relevant medical organisations.
From 1st April 2019 Gabapentin and Pregabalin will be classed as a Control Drug
Changes that could affect you:
You will only be prescribed 1 month supply at a time
These prescriptions will only be given out to the patient unless the patient has authorised a named person by phone call or letter in advance.
To ensure compliance with the new GDPR a copy of the new Data Protection Notice is available GDPR
Social Media Policy
Following recent activity on Facebook where patients of The Practice posted derogatory comments about The Practice in general we now have the following policy in place.
If any such posts are brought to our attention we will contact the patients. This will be viewed as a potential break down in the Doctor / Patient relationship and may result in you being removed from our list. If the comments are abusive or extreme we reserve the right to immediately remove you from our list and / or involve the Police.
You would not expect to read derogatory comments about yourself at your place of work, nor do we.
At present all appointments are "on the day". These appointments requests will be triaged by a GP or the Advanced Nurse Practioner. Reception staff will ask for a brief idea of what the appointment request is for at the initial call. Please be aware that you will only be called back twice for a triage call back. This is due to the fact we are now run by NHS Ayrshire and Arran and currently have 3 salaried GPs and 2 locum GPs working within the practice.
Practice Nurse and Advanced Nurse Practitioner appointments are available to pre-book. They do also have some bookable on the day appointments available if required.
We have recently had a Practice Nurse retire and this has caused the number of available appointments with the Practice Nurses to be reduced. Please bear this in mind when making appointments and if you are not able to attend a booked appointment please contact the surgery to cancel so that we can offer the appointment to other patients.
Over the last 2 months we have noticed an increasing trend in non attendance with the ANP, NURSE and PHLEBOTOMIST. If this trend continues we will be forced to remove patients from the practice list after 3 non attendance
GP Clinics Are Running Late!
Sometimes you will notice that the GP clinics are running late. This is mainly because patients wish to discuss more than one complaint in a single 15 minute appointment.
Please remember that the GP can only discuss ONE complaint in your 15 minute appointment. If you have more than one problem please ensure that you ask the receptionist for a double (30 minute) appointment.
Get Well, Keep Well
Of course we’re not just here for when you are unwell. Our team of healthcare professionals and back-up staff offer a number of clinics and services to promote good health and wellbeing whatever your medical condition.
We hope you enjoy having a look around the site and familiarising yourself with some of the online features such as ordering a repeat prescription. Whatever your thoughts, be sure to let us know via our feedback function. Comments and suggestions are always a great way of helping us continue to enhance the way we look after you.
We operate the practice from purpose built premises with access for disabled patients is at the side entrance.
